TTFN

Off down south for the weekend - meeting up with Gottle & Purple Fred and Sarah, Steve & Co, plus general relaxation, and, of course, a couple of football matches (I may be shopping then!). That’s the fun part, then Chris comes back home Sunday, and I stay down another day for Mary’s funeral.

See you Tuesday.

Necks, cars and cats

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Believe it or not, my neck is STILL causing me problems, and I’m still on the anti-inflammatories, one month after the physio assessment. I know it’s a month, because today was my one month on follow up appointment. They’re not quite sure why my neck has responded the way it has, but between us we decided that perhaps physio isn’t the answer just yet, and I’m back to the pain management clinic in a few weeks.

Minifer has decided to haemorrhage (?sp) coolant all of a sudden, and is currently off the road pending me getting her to a garage in the morning. Not my usual garage, which is currently closed pending a change of ownership (timing!), but a recommended one. In fact one I used many years ago for the original Minifer. I have a vivid memory of the man there showing me just how much welding was needed with his screwdriver, poking holes into the papier macher texture of the poor car’s nether regions. Hopefully this job will be marginally less expensive than that one was.

And then there’s Bones. He had a check up at the vet’s today, and another anti-senility steroid injection. They also threw in an anti-senility food supplement for us to try, and OK’d our using a small quantity of “illegal” food mixed in with his normal stuff to tempt him to eat. If he doesn’t perk up, he might only be with us for a few more months. Early indications are quite promising though, he polished off a big bowl of semi-illegal food when we got back, so hopefully he won’t lose any more weight, and may even gain a bit back.

Quite enough drama for a day off methinks.

An elderly cat’s SOS

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

Bones, Mum’s cantankerous and increasingly fastiduous cat, has got a bit of a problem. He’s getting increasingly fussy with his food, and whilst we’re not wasting any thanks to the efforts of Button & Eric (leftovers are beneath Pickle), keeping trying to find things to tempt him is getting more and more difficult. Imagine then our frustration, both human and feline, that one of his absolute favourites has been discontinued by Tescos.

So this is a plea for help! - if any blog follower happens to be passing a Tesco’s, would you mind awfully checking for the little 100g foil trays marked Tesco Supreme SENIOR (that’s a really important bit) Cat Pate - Chicken, with a sale price of approx 22p. And if you happen to find any, please could you buy as much as you can carry/afford? Seriously, I do not mind if I end up with 100+ trays here; I will reimburse all costs including p&p. You can let me know by phone, email or by blog comment if you’ve managed to find any, and both Bones and I would be really grateful :-)

To see my ex, give him a hug and have some lunch.

But not unfortunately to see and say my goodbyes to his mum Mary, who passed away at 3 a.m today.

RIP Mary - the best ex mother in law I ever had.

Doing the maths

Monday, February 16th, 2009

I’ve blogged before about being bonkersly busy at work, and trying to catch up by doing some work from home.

As of today, I’m 60 hours up, and not quite half way through. I’ve worked out if I can achieve about an extra 12 hours a week, I’ll be finished in 6 weeks time. Ish.

Think that’s the holiday paid for this year…

Why Lois? Why? To settle an argument of course!! We are obviously the exact opposite to Sam & Fluffy, in that it’s me who has hissy fits about hot food served on cold plates, and my beloved husband stated that “no-one else bothers”.

Well, 66% of you do!!!

:-)

Survey

One simple question :

Do you serve your food on a cold plate or a warmed plate?

It’s definitely a record

Everyday glasses again.

It’s actually quite impressive…

Wibble!

Phew

Due to - how shall I put it - unforeseen circumstances, I have only just been paid for January.

I was getting more than a little bit worried.

Working conditions

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

There are definite pros and cons to working from home (today being the second weather enforced daythis week of so doing).

Pros :

Yes Kathy, the toilet is most certainly warmer!!!!!! Indeed, the house as a whole is warmer :-)

Slobbing around in baggy, comfy clothing. I didn’t even bother with a bra today (apologies to those for whom this is too much information!)

Having the cats about

Cons :

We pay the heating bill here - oo er

LESS tea breaks (bloody cheek Andy Man ;-) ) - ‘cos I’m the only one to do the making, and half the time I can’t be bothered!

Having the cats around

On balance, I wouldn’t like to work from home on a permanent basis - it’s too lonely! - but it is nice to have the option rather than brave the lousy weather outside :-)

I remember when…

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

…a snow day off was a snow day off - throwing snowballs and curling up in the warm to watch some illicit daytime TV.

Yesterday however, I worked from home. Actually worked. The full 8 hours. OK, so I did manage a quick snowball fight with Pickle, and I did watch Neighbours whilst having my lunch. But the rest of the time was indeed spent working.

That’s gotta be a sign of getting old… ;-)

Is this a record? *

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

Now she’s broken her everyday glasses. In exactly the same way. Sometime in between taking her reading glasses to the opticians yesterday, and my picking her up to come and see Bones this afternoon. Two pairs of glasses, both trodden on, in the space of 72 hours.

D’you think we could get this website sponsored by Valium?

* anybody remember the era of Black Type in Smash Hits replying to such questions? - “no, a record is a small round black thing with a hole in the middle”
